Ways to handle anxiety from going back to school

When I was little and entered elementary school, one of the things I least enjoyed was going back to school. It really was one of the worst things! I avoided going to school at all costs because I felt very anxious, and I can understand that there are many more people who don't like going to school for the same reason. So, in this post I am going to give you different ways on how you can deal with going back to school anxiety.


1 Prepare an anxiety kit

Having ready the things that can work for you to lower your anxiety is one of the best ideas because that way you can be prepared for when you feel that your anxiety is at its peak. Prepare things like:


Food: almonds, turkey, blueberries, bananas and bell peppers.


Drinks: peppermint tea, lemon balm tea.


Aromatherapy: lavender works excellent when it comes to relax our body.


Music: create a playlist with all the songs that you enjoy so you can listen to them before or after school.


If you will be going to face-to-face classes instead of online and you have a locker, I recommend you put pictures or objects that can give you a little peace of mind and make you feel safe. Everything so that you feel more comfortable inside the school and enjoy it instead of suffering.


2 Exercise

Exercise is one of the things that can help us the most to release stress, to take a little out of our reality and routine, it is also a way to stay present in the now and obviously benefits our whole body. Giving yourself the time to do a little exercise will help you manage your anxiety better.


3 Take care of your sleeping time and waking time

Sleep is one of the things we need the most. Especially as a child or adolescent, because our body is still developing. When we sleep late and also have to get up early, our temperament, focus and energy are affected. Making the day more difficult.



3 Meditate

Ah... Meditations! One of the best things we can do. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or angry or in low spirits, I meditate, even when I feel some kind of physical pain. The truth is that meditations do something not just to our body and emotions, but it feels like medicine for our souls, pluuuus, it helps us to be mindful about what we want and who we want to be.

The truth is that meditating brings us closer to being at peace with our environment and gives us tools to handle anxiety situations with greater confidence.


4 Mantras

Not everyone is a fan of repeating mantras, however when we believe in them and repeat them constantly, we make our mind begin to believe in them. And not only our mind but we begin to surround ourselves with the same energy as our mantra. 5 Gratitude journal

Keeping a gratitude journal can greatly help us broaden our perspective on life. Many times anxiety is caused by fear of past events that may be repeated in the future and being aware of what we already have in our lives brings us to the present. 6 Prepare a safe space

A few years ago for a period of time I lived at my grandparents' house. The house was big and in my grandparents' room, there was a terrace that nobody went to. So every time I got angry or needed to be alone, I would go to that place and just listen to my own thoughts. It was a place that gave me peace of mind and I never felt any kind of anxiety in it. I could hear the air moving the branches of the trees, I could hear the cars passing on the street and the fountain of the neighbors next door. It was my sacred space and whenever I move, I try to find a place where I can feel at peace and clarify my ideas.




7 Get closer to nature

I think this is one of my favorites. Before I used to do it more often than now, but being close to nature is one of the things I enjoy the most in my life. On many occasions it feels as if it is speaking to me and guiding me little by little. When I feel confused and with that knot in my stomach, feeling the stress and nerves of something, the first thing I try to do is talk to nature and spend a big amount of time outside just to clear my head.


8 Ground yourself

There are thousands of ways to ground yourself when it comes to having a panic attack or big anxiety issues. Personally, I hate to come across misunderstandings with people who are explosive, firstly because I don't know how to handle well people who start screaming and secondly because I get lost and the only thing I feel is anxiety. So at times like those is when I close my eyes and little by little I count from one to ten. Slowly taking deep breaths and once I feel in full control of myself, I move and react the best way possible.

So give some time to yourself to look for an exercise that best suits you and don't forget to use it whenever you feel the need to do so.




With this I finish 8 things with which you can manage your anxiety. I know that between social networks, school grades, social drama, etc. Everything can feel very intense and at times you feel overwhelmed by so many things. But if you take a moment to be able to do at least one of these options, you will see that little by little your anxiety about going to school will start disappearing.
